Getting Real About Workplace Violence - Healthcare Version
Workplace Violence Prevention Training
Program length: Main Show (Awareness and Prevention plus Extreme Violence Response) 19 minutes. Manager Module 7 minutes

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, incidents of serious workplace violence are four times more common in healthcare than in private industry*. This violence can stem from many sources and take many forms.

When it comes to Workplace Violence associated with co-workers,  the mindset and principles of Workplace Violence Awareness and Prevention are really no different in a healthcare setting than they are in any other professional work environment.  However, when it comes to Extreme Violence Response options, healthcare workers do face additional challenges.

This video presents the fundamentals of Workplace Violence Prevention and Response while exploring the response options healthcare providers have when an active shooter situation, or other type of extreme violence incident, occurs in a patient care area.

Effective WPV training requires that employees and managers be taught:

  • the many forms workplace violence can take
  • how to spot and report concerning behaviors
  • response options healthcare workers have when extreme violence threatens patients as well as employees

When done right, WPV training creates a culture where people look out for one another.

This program does all of the above with extra emphasis on awareness and prevention. Learners are provided with the "mental categories" to spot changes in others that could indicate potential trouble and feel safe sharing those concerns.

  • Getting Real About Workplace Violence, Healthcare Version - For employees and managers, this video covers Awareness & Prevention as well as Extreme Violence Response. (20 minutes)
  • Advanced Training for Managers  - helps managers become more critically aware as to whether or not an employee might be on a pathway toward violence. (7 minutes)
