Language Learning Methodology

Encouraging Others promotes communication and language competence by building the desire and motivation to learn and the confidence to try. Confidence in learning and using English leads to successful communication.

Language and instructional design for Encouraging Others by Linguistics expert Dr. Fran Byrnes and Psychologist Eve Ash. Have fun learning English as it is really spoken!


Encouraging Others is part of the Cutting Edge English at Work Series and is chaptered into 5 sections:

1. Language Functions

Explores how we do things with language such as apologizing, agreeing, comparing, giving reasons, explaining, asking etc.

2. Grammar

Looks at key elements of grammar and syntax, such as: tenses, comparatives, modals, questions, gerunds, conditionals and more.

3. Idioms

Explains common idiomatic expressions that on-English speakers often find confusing.

4. Vocabulary

Helps increase word knowledge by highlighting challenging vocabulary in everyday conversations.

5. Pronunciation

Provides help with English sounds and rhythms for those new to the language.
